Adverse Effects and Aftercare for Dermal Fillers

At TE Clinic South London (Traitements Esthetiques), your safety and satisfaction are our top priority. We understand that, although dermal filler treatments are generally safe and well-tolerated, adverse effects can occasionally occur.

That’s why we offer post-treatment support and are available to address any concerns within the first 72 hours following your dermal filler treatment. If you experience any discomfort or unusual side effects, please do not hesitate to contact us immediately. We are here to ensure you feel confident and well cared for throughout your journey.

Tissue Necrosis (Rare) and How it Presents

It is my duty to make you aware of very rare but serious complication of dermal fillers, which may occur if the filler is accidentally injected into a blood vessel. Symptoms include extreme pain, numbness, skin discoloration, and severe swelling. If any of these symptoms appear, please contact me immediately, so that the filler can be dissolved using hyaluronidase.

Common Adverse Effects and How They Present

While side effects are rare, they can occur in the days following treatment. Here are some of the most common adverse effects and how they may present:

  • Swelling: Mild to moderate swelling is normal and usually resolves within a few hours to a few days. If the swelling lasts longer than expected or becomes painful, please contact us.
  • Bruising: Bruising can happen, especially in delicate areas like the lips or under the eyes. It typically fades within a week. However, excessive bruising or unexpected tenderness may require a follow-up.
  • Redness: It’s common to experience slight redness at the injection site. If this persists or if you notice warmth or heat in the area, contact us for advice.
  • Lumps or Irregularities: Sometimes, the filler may feel uneven or lumpy under the skin. This is typically a result of swelling, but if the lumps remain hard or visible beyond a few days, please reach out.
  • Infection: Although rare, infection can occur at the injection site. Symptoms of infection include increasing redness, warmth, tenderness, or the presence of pus. If you suspect an infection, contact us immediately.
  • Allergic Reactions: Allergic reactions to dermal fillers are very rare, but symptoms such as severe redness, swelling, itching, or rashes should be reported right away.
